Give and Take

I’m scared to lose you,

            I’ve been left before.

I’m scared to show it,

            And need you more.

It’s a dangerous place

            To leave your heart unguarded.

It’s far more harmful

To take a pure heart and scar it.

I fear you’ll hate me,

            It’s happened in the past.

Or, what if you love me,

            And, we just don’t last?

It’s a dangerous place

            To leave your heart unguarded,

But it’s far more difficult

When your heart has been hardened.

I’m afraid to make a promise

             I end up breaking.

I’m afraid to give you my love,

And our hearts end up aching.

It’s a dangerous place

            To leave your heart unguarded,

But it’s far more dangerous

            To stop before you’ve started.

So, I’ll take your heart

            And give you my own,

Because all I want,

Is our souls to no longer feel alone.

It’s a dangerous place

            This world we live.

But it’s far more dangerous

To only take and never give.
