Is it human intelligence that will eventually lead to our downfall as a society/species? Or is it other pieces of our human nature? Greed, for money or power? Is it our inability to exist without one another? We rely so much on the individuals placed in our lives that we lose track of the bigger picture. We get so caught up in our own little life. It’s not about just mom and dad, best friend and brother. What about Jack in Portland, or Sue in Taiwan? We forget to put ourselves in the shoes of the people that we never see. We forget that there are 7 billion other people in this world with vastly different ideas, beliefs, mindsets, motives, goals, the list goes on and on. Who are we to say that we (our small little piece of the world) got it right? Why can’t we open our minds and set forth on a goal to overcome and UNDERSTAND our differences? We have the intelligence and the technology to bridge that gap, yet we choose not to. We are all human beings living on a single planet that we could be killing at this very moment. Fuck different languages, and religions, and cultural beliefs and practices. Why can’t we evolve enough to the point in which we celebrate each other’s differences? Or at the very least, we tolerate them in order to work together on much larger issues? We can use those differences to our benefit- to LEARN. More about our world, our human make-up, how to live better-for everyone. For our children and our children’s children. Instead we use our intelligence to fight; to develop more powerful means of division. To quote my favorite thinkers: “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”
Oh, but how I wish there were more of us.
